A Day of Making
Spending a slow morning making valentine crafts for friends and family.

We wanted to spend a morning and an afternoon hanging out with our kids, making and eating special foods, doing crafts, and writing letters to friends and family.
With my husband working most of the day during the week, Saturdays are our days to take things slow, and spend some quality time together. The kids love waffles and pancakes so, Saturday is usually when we will have a large breakfast, and sit around the table hanging out and talking.
This day we were focusing on all of our Valentine’s Day cards that we wanted to send to family, and special friends. If we send anything in the mail, I try to get it out a few weeks ahead of when I want it to get there just to be on the safe side. We have created our new Penpal Kits for Valentine’s Day. There is a “Candy Hearts” collection, and there is a “I Whale Always Love You” collection. Using the digital downloads, I printed the papers out and placed them on the table for the kids to pick and choose which ones they wanted to use to write letters.
While the kids went to town writing, drawing, and creating these special cards, my husband and I worked on breakfast. I love a good themed meal, so we decided to make heart shaped waffles, sausage, bacon, and fruit. The fruit we had was strawberries and cherries, as they are very reminiscent of Valentine’s Day.
We then took a break from making cards to eat. Everyone devoured the food, and we talked about how excited we were to send all of our letters and cards to our family. The kids loved thinking about the reactions people would have when they got their mail. It made the process so much more fun for them to be able to make something with their hands and put it in the mail box for someone else to receive and feel the love from them. When breakfast was done we took a bit of a break and around snack time we came back to it and let the kids finish writing. I made valentines cookies, and let the kids eat some candy hearts in the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
Once everything was done we packed our envelopes, filled out the sending and return addresses, and put them in the mailbox to be picked up! It was a fun day at home hanging out with the family, while bonding and doing something special for the ones we love most
